International Women in Engineering Week – Melissa McLeod

This weekend it is International Women in Engineering Day 2018. To celebrate the event, the achievements of women in engineering, Advance FM wants to share the stories of our staff members. Today, Team Leader Melissa McLeod shares her experience of working in Facilities Maintenance.

“Hi, I’m Mell and I am a Team Manager of the Estimating Department. I am responsible for 1 administrator, 2 junior estimators and 1 senior estimators and the marketing apprentice. I have also been tasked with overseeing the administrative aspect of the sales department and all key accounts managers.

I started off working in the Motor Trade as an approved used car administration assistant/driver. Working for a reputable dealer I built up my skill set and due to the business at the time there was no room for progression; However, I enjoyed the variety of work and knew when the time came I wanted a similar job that was fast-paced and different every day.

When I saw the advert for an administrator at Advance I jumped at the chance of an interview, it was described as a fast-paced role within the facilities maintenance field which was very interesting to me.  I met with the MD Glenn for my second interview and have been here ever since.

I thoroughly enjoy working in FM.  Every day is different and the business is forever changing and evolving which keeps things interesting.

I am currently Team Manager of the estimating department and am very happy in the role I currently fill. I am fortunate enough to have a brilliant manager who is always encouraging me within my work.  In the future, I may wish to progress into looking after my own clients in more of a key account role or become a head of a department.”
